Indian Institute of Technology are India’s best autonomous institutes for higher education, and are considered institutions of national importance. Initiated as an outcome of Viceroy’s Executive Council for creation of Higher Technical Institutions for post-war industrial development, IITians have been able to generate a global brand image for themselves as well as their alma-mater. The setup of IITs originally involved expertise and support borrowed from UNESCO, USA, Japan, Russia, Germany, among other countries. IIT Hyderabad commenced through the efforts of JICA has quickly established itself among the Top 7 of all the technical institutions in India as per 2016 MHRD rankings.
The 23 Indian Institutes of Technology in India epitomize the quality of education, talent and global impact of Indian community across the world. As a few examples 60% of all start up companies in Silicon Valley are estimated to have at least one IIT alumni in its ranks of founders or CEOs, the Times Higher Education Supplement 2005 ranked IITs as 3rd best technology universities in the world and IITs are the only foreign university honored by a US Congress Resolution.The contribution of IITs and its graduates has been well recognized by eminent people all over globe such as Joe Biden, Vice President USA and Bill Gates, Founder Microsoft.
